SUMMARY:‘Beacon of Light’ By Greg Hallahan
DESCRIPTION:‘Beacon of Light’ marks the reopening of the Round Tower in Kildare Town after more than a year of meticulous renovation and cleaning. Presented within this unique and historic space\, the exhibition celebrates Brigid — both saint and goddess — whose presence continues to inspire across generations. \nFor this installation\, original artworks have been reimagined as transparent\, stained-glass–inspired pieces\, printed onto plexiglass. Set within the Round Tower’s nine windows\, each work offers a distinct vision of Brigid\, embodying her power\, resilience\, and kindness. As daylight filters through\, the images become illuminated\, transforming the Round Tower into a radiant beacon of inspiration and compassion. \nAbove\, a roof installation portrays The King Oak — one of Ireland’s largest and most iconic oak trees\, located near Tullamore. This work evokes the sensation of standing beneath a great oak canopy\, forging a symbolic link to Cill Dara — “the Church of the Oak” — the ancient name for Kildare where St Brigid founded her monastery beside a sacred oak. \nThe ascent to the summit forms part of the experience. As visitors climb the tower’s narrow and steep 108-foot staircase\, the wind grows in strength. At the top\, the full force of the elements are revealed\, amplifying the connection between nature\, history\, and place. Through the interplay of light\, space\, and imagery\, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect on Brigid’s role as a unifying symbol in Irish heritage\, and the enduring relevance of the values she represents today.

SUMMARY:Gurriers
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO SUPPORT ACT\, PLEASE ARRIVE ON TIME. \nEircode: W91 X77F \nDoors: 19:30pm \nTime: 20:00pm \nDate: 30/01/26 \nOver 16’s accompanied. \nTickets on sale below: \nBuy Tickets\n \nHailing from various parts of Ireland\, Gurriers—Dan Hoff on lead vocals\, Ben O’Neill and Mark MacCormack on guitar\, Pierce Callaghan on drums\, and Charlie McCarthy on bass—take their name from an antiquated Irish term for lout or ruffian. \nReleased in September 2024 to widespread acclaim\, Gurriers’ debut album\, Come and See\, is a searing counterattack on the malaise of the modern age\, offering a raucous reflection that is uncompromising in both sound and sentiment. \nSince its release\, the band has completed three sold-out tours across the UK\, Ireland\, and Europe\, including a landmark night at London’s Scala. Their two upcoming shows at Dublin’s Button Factory in December sold out in a day. They have continued to make their mark on the live circuit\, drawing huge crowds at major festivals such as All Together Now\, Beyond The Pale\, Glastonbury\, Truck\, Green Man\, Rock Werchter\, Down The Rabbit Hole\, Haldern Pop\, and Paredes de Coura. As Hot Press noted: “Gurriers know how to put on a show and get a crowd to go absolutely mental. They are simply a must see live.” \nLatest single ‘Erasure’ is their first new music since Come and See\, recorded with Alex Greaves and mixed by Pelle Gunnerfeldt (Viagra Boys\, The Hives). “Erasure” is call and response rock music at its most incendiary. \nPraise for Come and See \n– Dork: 5* — “It’s impossible to overstate how impressive this album is” \n– Clash: 8/10 — “A thrilling debut” \n– Rolling Stone UK: (Albums you need to hear this week) — “anger and catharsis drives Come and See\, a punk record fizzing with energy and discontentment but determined to break on through” \n– Louder Than War: “The sound here is steady\, big\, giving\, and one that could really propel this band to other vistas”

SUMMARY:Brigid's Cross making with Willow Wonder
DESCRIPTION:It is said that\, St Brigid wove a cross from the rushes of a floor mat\, as she taught a dying man about Christianity. This cross appears with a woven diamond in the centre\, with 3 or 4 arms. Hanging a Brigid’s cross from the rafters of one’s house on February 1st was believed to bring the blessing and protection of St Brigid for the remainder of the year\, particularly from fire; a common issue for houses with thatched roofs! \n  \nJoin Willow Wonder\, Beth Murphy\, for traditional St Brigids Cross making\, using Willow and Rushes. Leave with your very own authentic St Brigids Cross\, feeling closer to the spirit of Brigid and Kildare itself. \n  \nBeth has been growing and working with willow since 1997.  She set up willow wonder in 2005 to promote the ancient craft of Basketmaking\, Environment and Heritage. Beth’s current interest is in big sculptural pieces mixing steel and willow to play with form. website: https://willowwonder.net/ \n  \nThere is no booking necessary\, these events will be run on a drop in basis.
